My story begins about one year ago....
I was visiting my sister, who just happens to be an accomplished seamstress and a quilter extraordinaire. I had imposed upon her and asked her to teach me to quilt, after all, I was going to be staying for the week. Wasn't that plenty of time? Can't you do a quilt in a week? Isn't the name of that book "Quilt in a Day"? If they could do one in a day I was sure that I'd be able to do one in a week! Being the gracious host, and most horrid enabler that she is, she of course, said yes!
With Dee's invaluable "assistance" we did manage to make not one quilt, but TWO!
Fast forward a few months and I happened upon, what in my eyes, was the most beautiful and challenging quilt - Dear Jane. Again, I nudged Dee, "Well? Whattya think?" She laughed. However, within the month, Jane had cast her spell on Dee and she had begun her shopping for the most perfect reproduction fabrics. Well, about 90 fabrics later, I would declare that Dee is officially hooked. Dee has graciously sent me half of her stash and we are on this journey together.
But, did we dive right into the Dear Jane? Jane is SO far out of my league, Dee suggested that we begin with the Civil War Love Letters Quilt by Rosemary Youngs. It has the same feel as the Jane, but is a tad tamer with its 126 6" squares as compared to Jane's 251 4" squares that encompass 5,403 pieces! Egads! What am I in for?!?
So... this is where our blog will begin. We'll be sharing our squares with each other, and it will be wonderful to see just how each of us, with the same fabrics, and the same pattern, will interpret the design.
